Global Scholars in Athens Emphasize Value of Classical Wisdom for Modern Challenges

(MENAFN) An international academic conference in Athens has concluded with calls for stronger cooperation among scholars and deeper intercultural dialogue, with participants highlighting the continuing relevance of classical thought in addressing today’s global issues.

The Second World Conference of Classics, held over two days from June 9 to 10, brought together more than 200 academics, researchers, and cultural representatives from Asia, Europe, Africa, and North America. The event focused on the theme “Dialogue Between Ancient and Modern Civilizations: Contemporary Inspiration from Classical Wisdom.”

Discussions throughout the conference centered on how ideas rooted in ancient civilizations can still inform modern debates on governance, ethics, social organization, and international relations in an increasingly complex global environment.

Participants emphasized that classical knowledge systems continue to provide intellectual tools for interpreting contemporary global developments and societal transformations.

A key outcome of the gathering was the adoption of a joint initiative titled “Illuminating Humanity's Future with Classical Wisdom,” which stresses that classical civilizations remain a meaningful source of insight for understanding human societies and guiding future global progress.

Organizers and participants underscored the importance of expanding international academic collaboration to ensure that classical studies remain connected to present-day challenges and policy discussions.
