Organized Crime Figure Dies in Shooting at Starbucks

(MENAFN) A man linked to organized crime was fatally shot, and two others were severely wounded in a midday assault at a Starbucks located in Laval, a city just north of Montreal in Quebec, Canada, according to a news agency’s report on Wednesday.

The victim was identified by Radio-Canada as Charalambos Theologou, also known as “Bobby the Greek,” a well-known associate of the Chomedey Greeks gang, as reported by the broadcaster.

The two individuals injured were also reportedly affiliated with the same gang.

The shooting occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. local time in a bustling strip mall near the intersection of Highway 440 and 100th Avenue, according to the news agency.

Laval police responded promptly to a 911 emergency call while the Starbucks and surrounding stores were busy with patrons.

Quebec Public Security Minister Ian Lafreniere addressed the media, stating that the attack appeared to be a deliberate strike tied to organized crime.

He further noted that there was no indication that any "innocent victims" were caught in the incident.

Theologou had a known history of operating an extortion scheme in Laval, as detailed in the news agency’s report.

His criminal record included convictions for conspiracy, weapons offenses, and drug trafficking.

He served four years in prison in 2007 for conspiracy and aggravated assault, and another five years in 2010 for drug trafficking.

Authorities confirmed that the investigation into the shooting is still underway.
